Annual District Spaghetti Bridge Building Contest
The 11th Annual Abbotsford School District Spaghetti Bridge Contest was held Friday (Jan.29) with 13 teams competing, made up of approximately 45 students representing seven middle schools from around the district. Sponsored by the Old Spaghetti Factory, this annual contest involves teams of three or four middle school students designing and building a bridge on their own, made of spaghetti sticks and glue, in one two and a half hour session. Once completed, a ‘weigh-off’ is held, where each bridge is weighed, then they have a one pound weight added and timed for a minute for a strength test. The lightest bridge that can hold up the weight wins top spot.
Top spot this year went to the "Abby Middle One", with a bridge weight of 67 grams. Second spot went to "CDG (Chief Dan George) 1", with a bridge weight of 71 grams; third went to "Abby Middle Two" with a bridge weight of 75 grams. Heaviest bridge weighed in at 163 grams.
The annual event is organized by the district's Career Programs department and was held in the Arts Addition at Abbotsford Arts Centre.
